School of Management Science and Real Estate holds Young Scholar's Forum

to celebrate its 40th Anniversary

 

Young scholars gather in Chongqing and discuss the future of the School of Management Science and Real Estate

 

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the School of Management Science and Real Estate (the "School"), the Young Scholar's Forum was held in Lecture Hall 207 (Management Engineering Building), the Building of the School of Management Science and Real Estate, Campus B, Chongqing University as part of the 40th Anniversary series activities on October 22, 2021. The guiding spirit of the Forum was "excellence, intelligence, innovation and youth".

The Forum was held to provide a high-level exchange platform for young talents engaged in the management science field from home and abroad, and included keynote speeches, academic discussions and employment negotiation. Attendants discussed the frontier scientific topics of the management science discipline, focusing on hot academic areas, so as to broaden the academic horizon, create academic inspiration and promote exchange and cooperation. The Forum included 1 main session, which was held on the morning of October 22, and 3 parallel sessions, which were held on the afternoon of the same day. Outstanding young scholars from domestic and foreign colleges and universities including Tsinghua University, Shenzhen University, Tianjin University, Hong Kong University, Western Sydney University, Deakin University, and Catholic University of Leuven, showed up at the Forum.

Zhuang Taozhi, a research assistant of the School of Management Science and Real Estate, presided at the opening ceremony. Prof. Liu Guiwen of the School delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Liu said that the development of the School focused on talent nurturing, close association with the industry, open mind and international vision. According to Liu, the School has made significant achievements in talent training, scientific research, international exchanges and promoting the development of the industry. The School has been making constant progress in an inclusive, up-to-date and open-minded manner, and will continue to focus on teachers and students and take nueturing students as its fundamental task.

Prof. Ye Kunhui, Vice Dean of the School, gave an introduction to the disciplines and scientific research of the School from perspectives including the major indicators of the "13th Five-year Plan", major research projects and consultancy projects undertaken by the School, and the high-standard papers published by the School. Besides, Prof. Ye gave a view of the main scientific research areas of the School, and said that the School would concentrate efforts on its characteristic disciplines, in particular management science, and cultivate first-rate talents.

Prof. Xiang Pengcheng, Vice Dean of the School, gave a systematic and detailed introduction to the basic situation and achievements of undergraduate discipline construction of the School. After that, he walked through the specific measures of talent training of the School from the aspects including teaching plan, teaching methods, practice, international exchange and extracurricular education. At last, Prof. Xiang shared the latest teaching research achievement of the School with the honored guests, Cultivation System of Non-technical Capacities of Civil Engineering Undergraduate Students toward a Country with Remarkable Engineering Strength, which had won the first prize for teaching achievements of Chongqing University in 2021.

After that, Lecturer Yang Wei, representative of the young teachers of the School of Management Science and Real Estate, Research Assistant Zha Quanbo, and Research Assistant Zhuang Taozhi, delivered keynote speeches respectively on the three topics, 'big data computing modeling and knowledge extraction of multi-source cities', 'research on preference evolution under network effect' and 'research on collaborative governance mechanism of urban renewal from the perspective of social capital', and shared their personal feelings toward scientific research and life at the School. The last part in the morning was a teach-in of talent policy of Chongqing University. Associate Prof. Hou Wenhua, Assistant to the Dean, gave an introduction to the talent recruitment policy of CQU from aspects including job category, salary model, application conditions and development mechanism, and welcomed the young scholars to join the School of Management Science and Real Estate.

On the afternoon of October 22, the parallel sessions were held in the Management Engineering Building. Tends of young scholars delivered academic speeches on topics such as "complicated project management", "smart city" and "high-quality development of cities", and exchanged their brilliant views.

Parallel Session 1 was held in the Lecture Hall 210 of the Management Engineering Building, and was about "complicated project management". Prof. Ye Gui of Chongqing University chaired the session, and Prof. Fu Yan acted as the commenter. Experts and researchers expressed their views freely over the Session. Lecturer Shen Wenxin and Prof. Fu Yan from the School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University had heated exchange of ideas on "how an enterprise should balance benefit and the extent of information disclosure"; Dr. Zhou Ying from the School of Civil Engineering of Tsinghua University and Dr. Liu Bo from the School of Civil Engineering of Tongji University had in-depth discussion over the intelligent identification content of components to be hoisted before hoisting; Dr. Liu Qinjun from Western Sydney University gave detailed explanation to the question raised by Zhang Rong, a teacher of the School of Management Science and Real Estate, as to how we should apply the research of mental health problems of construction workers to China; Dr. Wei Wei and Dr. Song Guanghan from the School of Civil Engineering of Tongji University, and Dr. Chen Xiaoyan from the School of Economics and Management of Southwest Jiaotong University shared their latest research findings.

Parallel Session 2 was held in Lecture Hall 207 of the School of Management Science and Real Estate, and was chaired by Prof. Zhang Wei of CQU. Prof. Zhou Tao acted as the commenter. Parallel Session 2 was about the topic "smart city". Eight young scholars delivered fantastic speeches on line or off line on this topic. Assistant Professor Wu Zezhou from Shenzhen University delivered a vivid speech titled Attitude of Chinese Public Towards Municipal Solid Waste Sorting Policy; Dr. Yang Renhao from Catholic University of Leuven delivered a virtual speech titled Market Entry of Collectively Operated Construction Land and Rural Gentrification, which sparked heated discussion among judges and experts; Associate Prof. Jiao Liudan from Chongqing Jiaotong University had discussion over Study on Toughness Evaluation of Underground Stations of Urban Rail Transit under Rainstorm and Water-logging with other scholars and researchers present. Dr. Wang Jinzhu from Deakin University, Dr. Liu Xue from East China Normal University, and Dr. Cai Dahai from the School of Commerce of Sichuan University and and Dr. Zhong Jian and Dr. Yang Biyu from Chongqing University shared their latest research findings.

Parallel Session 3 was held in Lecture Hall 105 of the School of Management Science and Real Estate, and was chaired by Prof. Wang Lin of CQU. Prof. Ye Xiaosu acted as the commenter. Topic of the Session was "high-quality development of cities". Associate Prof. Feng Zhuo from Dalian University of Technology expounded on the topic "Operation mode of agricultural cold storage PPP project". Lecturer Zhang Yajing from Nanjing Institute of Technology, Dr. Li Dandan from Hong Kong University and Dr. Wang Yingying from Tsinghua University delivered speeches respectively on research on PPP mode in urban rail transit, management organization behavior and public cultural services; Research Assistant Ma Minda from the Department of Earth System Science of Tsinghua University delivered a speech titled "Tsinghua-IBED: A Multi-regional Dataset of Global Carbon Emissions from Building Sector"; Lecturer Yan Xing from Wuhan University of Technology discussed with the experts and researchers over "Research on Ontology Based Case-based Reasoning System for Green Building Technology Design"; Dr. Wang Yihan from Tianjin University and Dr. Wang Bo from Chongqing Jiaotong University had an in-depth discussion over dynamic evaluation of metro operation performance and value realization path of urban ecological products.

After that the Young Scholars' Forum of the School of Management Science and Real Estate was brought to a successful end. Young scholars had heated exchange of ideas over the event and expanded their understanding and knowldge of the research area. At the Forum, the School of Management Science and Real Estate showed the achievements it has made in scientific research in the past 40 years, and a solid foundation was laid for the School to attract outstanding talents of various levels from home and abroad.

Over the past 40 years, teachers and students of the School have been making continuous efforts to drive development of the School, optimize the cultivation program of undergraduate talents, build a complete discipline cultivation system and constantly improve the education quality of undergraduates. Now the School has developed into a domestically first-rate school in terms of overall strength, with nationwide leading scale, diversified disciplines and a complete disciplinary system. By now, the School has established scientific research platforms including the Construction Economy and Management Research Center of CQU, Institute of urban-rural Construction and Development and International Research Center Sustainable Built Environment. It now has the doctoral degree program and postdoctoral research center of first-level discipline "management science and engineering", 3 national first-rate undergraduate programs and 1 provincial first-rate undergraduate program. Disciplines including construction management, financial management, real estate development and management, and project cost of the School were included as class-A disciplines in the "Best Chinese University Disciplines Ranking" of 2021. In particular, construction management, real estate development and management and project cost were included as class-A+ disciplines.

The School is going to have a more brilliant tomorrow by virtue of the contribution of young scholars from all over the country.
