Ruhr University of Bochum Prof. Markus Koenig on an academic visit to the School
From March 2 to 9, 2019, with support of the "Key Foreign Expert Introduction Program for Colleges and Universities" of the Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (T2018004), Professor Markus Koenig from Ruhr University of Bochum was on an academic visit to the School of Management Science and Real Estate. During the academic visit, Markus had in-depth discussion with teachers and students of the School of Management Science and Real Estate. A series of activities were held to promote improvement of quality in teaching, scientific research and university-enterprise cooperation of the School.
As for teaching, in order to improve the teaching system of postgraduate students, and integrate information technology science into the postgraduate teaching, Markus delivered a course named Modern Programming Concepts in Engineering (Java) to undergraduate and postgraduate students of the School of Management Science and Real Estate. During the 2-day teaching, Markus introduced students to the application of modern programming concept in engineering and the basic theory of programming; furthermore, Markus showed the complete process and ideas of programming by giving examples and providing opportunities of hands-on practice. Markus had a discussion with Associate Professor Mao Chao from the School of Management Science and Real Estate over innovation of content of information technology related courses. The two expressed their hope to inspire and expand students' innovation ability from the technical level, improve the knowledge system of information related courses, and inspire new ideas and methods for undergraduate and postgraduate students' research and innovation in the future.
As for scientific research, in order to promote the research of the School in building informatization, Markus and his doctoral candidate an academic forum on "development tendency of BIM in Germany", at which they shared the related research currently being conducted at Ruhr University of Bochum, and had discussion over the topic with teachers and students of the building informationization and smart city teams. By participating in the forum, teachers and students gained a deeper understanding of the research ideas and methods in the field of building informatization in Germany. The forum also identified the direction for how to solve the problems and difficulties faced by the School of Management Science and Real Estate in related researches. After that, Markus and Prof. Xiang Pengcheng from the School of Management Science and Real Estate had negotiation over matters such as academic exchange and cooperation between Ruhr University of Bochum and CQU and summer schools, and reached an agreement on more frequent cooperation and exchange in the future.
As for enterprise-university-research cooperation, Markus, Prof. Fu Yan of the School of Management Science and Real Estate and Cao Ke, a teacher of the School, visited T. Y. Lin International Engineering Consulting (China) Co., Ltd. and Chongqing SDP Building Technology Co., Ltd. During the visit, the related parties had in-depth discussion over how we should strengthen revolution of building informationization in curriculum system of higher education, and how can the related practical experience of BIM in enterprises be converted into course resources. After that, Markus gave an introduction to the development of building informatization in Germany, and identified the direction of BIM development in enterprises, which brought motive force to the development of the enterprises.
The academic visit of Prof. Markus Koenig from Ruhr University of Bochum to the School of Management Science and Real Estate lasted for 5 days. During this period, Markus provided reference and demonstration to how the School should improve the informationization ability of undergraduate and postgraduate students and establish the related curriculum system and course experiment, and provided new ideas on promoting scientific research and strengthening university-enterprise cooperation.
